Educator Appraisal

When you start using the resource, you conduct a 15-minute assessment to identify issues, which is quick and easy to do. The ability to track children's progress using this test is helpful. The resource has lots of useful information for delivering strategies and communicating with the home. However, it is very expensive to use and may not provide much additional knowledge beyond what teachers are already likely to have. Schools that cannot fund the resource might get better value from less costly and time-intensive training courses on identifying and supporting speech and language problems.

Evidence Rating

There is very limited evidence that Wordshark has positive effects on children's spelling and language development. The limited evidence which does exist points towards the intervention being acceptable to teachers but does not provide sufficient data to determine an effect on pupil outcomes. The website boasts excellent results and positive outcomes, but relies on testimonials to back these claims up.
