Educator Appraisal

Uprising Resource Balloon uses a balloon metaphor to provide a tangible way for children to understand complex emotional concepts. It can be effective for younger students or those with SEND, as it makes abstract ideas easier to grasp. I like that the resource encourages self-regulation, promotes social skills and empathy through peer interaction and helps students develop empathy and communication skills by learning about emotions. I also like that it supports a positive classroom environment. I didn't like that the concept is quite abstract, so students might find it difficult to relate to, or it may need to be adapted. Also, student engagement may vary, especially among older students, who may not respond well to activities focused on emotional introspection, resulting in feeling uncomfortable or viewing these activities as less relevant than academic content.

UpRising Resource Bank is based on research-derived theory; however, there is currently no scientific evidence to indicate whether it is an effective resource. As of January 2026, plans to evaluate the wider project that UpRising Resource Balloon are in place.
